भूतकाल – समय जो बीत गया और भूतकाल बन गया । जो एक्शन भूतकाल में �?टित हुआ वह पास्ट टेन्स से सम्बंधित है ।

Past Indefinite Tense is used to express an action that is completed or happened in recent past, normally a short time before speaking. Time of action is not specified but it makes a sense that action is completed in recent past like
– He saw her face. It means that subject has seen her face a short time ago.
एक्शन या कार्य जो वाक्य बोलते समय से कुछ समय पहले ही पूर्ण हुआ हो या �?टित हुआ हो, पास्ट इन्ड़ेफिनेट टेन्स के अन्तर्गत आता है । जैसे – उसने उसके चेहरे को देखा । इसका अर्थ है की उसने उसके चेहरे को वाक्य बोलने के समय से कुछ समय पहले देखा । हिन्दी में इसकी पहचान – वाक्य के अंत में ‘आया’, ‘गया’, ‘लिया’, ‘दिया’, ‘पढ़ा’ आदि का प्रयोग होता है ।

It is used to express an action which has completed in past and time (like 3pm, yesterday, last evening, last month, past years) is given in the sentence like – He met her yesterday.
कार्य जो भूतकाल में �?टित या पूर्ण हुआ हो और वाक्य में समय (जैसे 3 बजे, कल, पिछले महिने, पिछले साल, आदि) दिया हुआ हो, वह भूतकाल सामान्य काल के अन्तर्गत आते हैं ।
It is also used to express old habits also like – Rajkumar always wore white shoes. Normally words “USED TO” is used to express old habits for which we shall learn later – Rajkumar used to wear white shoes
इसका प्रयोग भूतकाल की आदत को व्यक्त करने हेतु भी किया जाता है जैसे – राजकुमार हमेशा सफेद जूते पहनता था. भूतकाल की आदत को बताने के लिए आमतौर पर “यूस्ड़ टू” का प्रयोग किया जाता है जिसके बारे में आगे पढ़ेंगे ।

In Past Indefinite Tense, 2nd form of Verb is used to form the Affirmative sentence. We have already read that there are three forms of Verbs –

पास्ट इन्ड़ेफिनेट टेन्स के सकारात्मक वाक्य़ बताने में वर्ब की 2 फ़ॉर्म का प्रयोग होता है । हम पहले पढ़ चुके हैं कि वर्ब के तीन रुप होते हैं – Ist GO -जाता है, 2nd WENT – गया & 3rd GONE – जा चुका है / था / होगा ।
